Well, the truth is there are a few things to consider in this situation. We’re going to take a look at some of the reasons that you should, and also some of the reasons that you might not want to or might not be able to. After all, you want to make sure that you’re doing what’s best for your home, right? You want to make sure that you’re going to have a home that you can really enjoy and that’s going to do the absolute best for you for a long time.

Replacing Your Siding and Windows

If you’re going to replace both the siding and the windows of your Hawaii home then it’s definitely a good idea to take care of them both at the same time. The reason for this is that you’re actually tearing out the siding of the house and potentially damaging what are called the caps of your windows. Those caps are what keep things protected and help to keep out the moisture, wind, air flow and a whole lot more. You definitely want to make sure that they’re staying in good shape to continue to do what they’re made to do.

When you remove your siding it’s possible that these could be damaged. Now, if you’re replacing the window at the same time that’s not going to be something that you need to worry about. Instead, you’re going to be able to just remove everything and then start putting in the new windows and go through the process of recapping them. It’s not a big deal if they’re damaged while the siding comes off. And you’re not going to be paying more for the service.

If you absolutely can’t replace both things at the same time you’re going to want to think about where you’re willing to pay a little extra and where you’re willing to put in a bit of extra work. After all, whether you do the windows first or the siding you’re going to be spending more. You’re also going to have potential for some type of damage that is going to result in more money and more time that needs to be spent on the project. So, what are you going to want to do as your next step?

If you put windows in first you’re going to be able to finish off your caps before you start covering things up. This is going to make it easier for the installers that are taking care of the job. They want to be able to get the job done more quickly and that’s not going to happen if you’re in need of additional steps. Also, if you put the windows in after the siding you’re going to need to pay for some aspects twice. That’s because the siding removal and installation could damage the caps of the windows that are already there. If you have to recap those ones and then pay to put caps on the new ones that you install later you’re definitely spending more than you want to, right?

If you put in siding first you’re also going to have the problem of needing a moisture barrier when you do the windows. That moisture barrier actually needs to go in behind the siding and that means you’re going to be removing siding again anyway. You’ve just paid to put that up and now you’re going to need to remove it and deal with the hassle of trying to install it again. Not only that but you’re going to have to deal with the potential for damaged caps again.

If you’re having trouble with your siding and you absolutely need to do something then you might not have a choice. You might need to take some action and get the siding fixed right away. If you can’t afford to swap out your window options as well then you’re definitely going to need to do what you need to do. Don’t feel like you absolutely can’t switch out your siding first. It’s something that can absolutely be done. You just need to know about the potential costs involved.

Make sure that you’re looking into your different options and that you’re working with the same team to get both projects done. You might be able to save a little when you go back for the next task or the next part of the project. Or at the very least you’re getting the same people who took care of you the last time and that’s going to make it easier for them to do what needs to be done this time around as well. You can also ask them for even more advice about what you should be doing as your next step.
